Jess B talks about new single 'Set It Off'
"For me this track is maybe different to other tracks that I have done before in the sense that I was trying to be quite lyrical on it and creating a song that had a message about a way I've been feeling for awhile but have never really spoken about. When I was writing it I had gotten to the point in my life where I was ready to talk about stuff like that. The whole idea behind 'Set It Off' is not sitting down and being idle - being part of a collective, whatever that is, and fighting for a space, whatever group that may be. I wrote it more from a racial minority perspective but it could be taken in heaps of different ways - for heaps of groups that are trying to make their way or stand up and say what they need to say. It's just about speaking out and standing up and being strong in who you are. For myself I found it inspiring to write, so I hope it would be helpful in some way to listen to. When I write, it's almost cathartic. Like, I write it and I listen to what I've written and I'm like, fuck yeah!"
